Bright Young Things Need But One LBD
The name is as clever as the dress (which is reversible and infinitely convertible), so what is a Bright Young Thing? “A Bright Young Thing is defined as someone who is open minded, optimistic, playful, appreciates beauty and still is conscious about their actions effects on the world around them. A conscious Joy-maker. It has nothing to do with your age, it has everything to do with being nimble, inventive, and enginuitive within the social, physical and environmental constructs of our times,” says Starbuck. -Johanna Bjork reports for Goodlifer

BYT Style Council Member Eleanor Friedberger
Eleanor Friedberger of the Brooklyn-based brother-sister duo The Fiery Furnaces never abides by musical commonplace, and her style is equally uninhibited. Time Out named her among New York’s most fashionable, which for some could mean a laboriously premeditated morning effort, yet Eleanor’s approach to getting dressed is anything but, and refreshingly so. This week, Eleanor talked to us about thrifting in middle America, being in a band with her brother, and her approach to dressing for gigs… Read More>>
My Birthday Rock Concert
I had a dream birthday! A concert was thrown in my honor and the whole gang showed up to perform. Ms. Ross, Grace Jones and Lady Gaga belted out the tunes wearing the most extravagant costumes they owned. Weird Al Yankovic blew up his fat suit from the archives and The Flaming Lips brought their crowd surfing bubble. Elvis, Iggy and David Lee Roth pulled themselves together for a night and they all formed together to sing me Happy Birthday. The entire night was a blast until Hello Kitty floated in from the parade and bulldozed all the performers offstage. Despite a rough encore, it was one amazing concert.
BYT Style Council Member Chris Benz
Who has the charm and grace of Billie Burke, the school boy looks but far better manners than Prince Harry, can make a Sunday picnic out of what most people would call work (cocktails and lemonade included), has the interior decor par with Oliver Smith, and can make a fur stole worthy of Johnny Weir out of Ikea carpeting? Well, it’s my friend Chris Benz of course!

Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai, the two talented stars behind the line, Vena Cava, are serving as members on the Bright Young Thing’s Style Council. Bright Young Things Comic Part II
Part II of our Bright Young Things Archie Comic has an unusual origin. As soon as Bright Young Things launched on the scene so did one of our favorite readers and most loyal fans, RUN JDHP. His loyalty runs deep. He gave us so much love that when he offered to make us our very own Bright Young Things cartoon, we jumped at the chance! How could we resist?…..READ MORE>>
BYT Style Council Member & Cobblestones’ Owner Delanee Koppersmith
If I had a walk in closet, it would be Cobblestones, where they have the best collection of vintage accessories and clothes I’ve ever seen in one room. It’s a vintage lover’s dream come true. Owner, Delanne Koppersmith is a rare breed who doesn’t own a computer or a cell phone, nor has she ever used an ATM. Walking into her store is like walking into time…
DIY Home Dry Cleaning
So you just got back from the thrift store with a bag full of your new treasures, you get them home and, well, quite frankly, they smell like a thrift store. While some things can be washed in the laundry to get the smell out, many of the choice tailored goods require dry cleaning…
Earthships: Really, they exist.
As some of you may have noticed, Eliza has been going a bit batty for Earthships. As some of you may have not noticed, she sneaked a very real hyperlink into her last very imaginative post. That link led to a website, where we discovered that Earthships are actually attainable–film icons and mad scientists not included… READ MORE>>
Red Gate Garden
It never ceases to amaze me that after living in the same neighborhood in Brooklyn for 10 years, I still find things that I’ve never discovered before! For instance, today I was at McCarren Park, in Williamsburg Brooklyn, strolling around the track with my sister, when I noticed a peciliar, lovely little clump of woodland trees that were fenced in with an odd little rickety fence. I walked over to the gate to peer into what appeared to be a secret garden. On the other side of the gate were shady woodland ferns and wild flowers, fig and cherry trees, antique birdbaths, a tiny vegetable garden and neat little paths… Read More>>

Picnic In The Park
How often in the depths of winter did you have visions of the summer ahead? Of being out on a blanket in the park, sipping wine and wearing less than (gasp!) the countless layers of winter gear you were wearing at the time? It was high time for that fantasy to become sweet, sweet reality for the Bright Young Things… READ MORE>>
Bright Young Thing Wear-a-thon, Lily
I met Lily Saporta-Tagiuri in the 4th grade. Back then she had a head full of braids and bracelets up to her elbow- she has always stuck out against the crowd as a girl with her own style. Today she pulls together brilliant outfits of rich fabrics, vibrant colors, funky prints and delicate details that inspire those around her to play with their own wardrobes in new ways. We look forward to following her wear-a-thon this summer!

Kathleen Scully, Day 31
This is my last day! The month went by so quickly. First, I’d like to thank Eliza for designing an awesome dress that has allowed me to modernize, refresh my wardrobe, and truly make me realize how much I have. So cliche, but some of the best things are in our own backyard – or already in our closet! All of the items dusted off over the last month have a new found appreciation…Read More>>
Fearless Fashion
“You can’t think so hard about being fearless, I guess! My doodles started on the edges of my school textbooks and scrap pieces of paper and now they’ve become synonymous with my style. They’re something I don’t really think about -they kind of just do themselves! It’s great to be able to do them on a larger scale and to think that they might stop someone, even if it’s just for a moment.”…. READ MORE>>
