Eliza Starbuck, Day 12
Just Because…
Today I felt like getting gussied up, so I put on a vintage floor length gown that I had bought at the Thrift Store a while back.
It’s completely sheer, so it was perfect for styling with in the summer weather.
I wore one of my husband’s ties as a belt, also a Salvation Army find, and on a thin gold chain I wore one of my fluorite heart medallions which I wrapped with gold filled wire. On my thumb I’m wearing a ring I’ve had for years which I bought at an East Village Flea Market because it reminded me for something out of a fairy tale.
I decided to put on a pair of vintage clip on earrings, which I got at a garage sale in Merrick, Long Island for $1. They seemed to go well with my assortment of stud earrings given to me piece by piece by my husband over the years.

Eliza Starbuck, Day 9
Skirt as a Dress & Dress as a Hat
Don’t see the dress? Well, take a closer look! Today I’ve fashioned my little black dress into a hat and threw a green ribbon bow on it to hold it all together. And to push the re-purposing a bit further, I’ve taken an old skirt of mine and I’m wearing it as a dress!
Here’s a little closer detail of the dress as a hat. You can see a little of the blue hem tape poking out in a stripe detail.
I used the neckline area around my face which made a nice, clean edge finish on my headdress. Then I gathered the rest of the dress in two bunches, twisted them up to make the structure and wrapped the two twists around my head and tucked them into one another. Voila! Dress as a hat!
The wrap skirt, shown here as a dress, is another Indian printed thrift store find. I tied it at the neckline, and pinned the skirt closed with a safety pin. Then I cinched the whole look with a skinny leather belt, also a thrift store find. And am wearing my favorite summer shoes, the Grecian sandals again. Perfect for a hot, sticky, summer day!
Fresh New Fashion Label Launches with One Little Black Dress
“From the Designer of The Uniform Project dress–Brooklynite Sheena Matheiken made it famous by wearing it 365 days, 365 different ways–comes a fresh new fashion labelBright Young Things. The catch: the label is comprised of one season-less LBD, designed to be worn continuously and made to order, locally in New York City. Could it be the most sustainable dress on the market?” -EMMA GRADY of Treehugger

The Women of Sablaise
I’m currently reading a novel called The Blue Room by the French mystery writer, Simenon (excellent, by the way). In a passage describing the French sea-side town, Sables-d’Olonne, Simenon writes that his hero “took photographs of the fishing boats at anchor and of the Sablais women, with their pleated skirts and varnished clogs, in the fish market.” Varnished clogs? Can we get them on eBay… Read More>>
