Bright Young Things Play Dress Up

You don’t have to be a kid to play dress up. Get together with friends and try on some ridiculously fun looks on and get inspired! Having a friend with a large vintage collection is always great for borrowing but having them host a dress up event can be a fun way to hang out with friends and try on new looks. Pairing the vintage pieces with the Little Black Dress can take your look to the streets with flair and style and a nod to the environment that any Bright Young Thing would appreciate.

Yuka Yoneda, Style Challenger!

When we met Yuka at Cobblestones for her dress up session for the style challenge, we had no idea what we were in for. This girl takes play to the next level. She had us cracking up the entire time. “This is my gothic girl look… I feel like I need a butcher’s knife!” She would exclaim in the middle of her dress up session. She had all of us running about the shop looking for the most comically threatening items we could find. This stuffed glove, she decided, would suffice… Read More>>

My Birthday Rock Concert

I had a dream birthday! A concert was thrown in my honor and the whole gang showed up to perform. Ms. Ross, Grace Jones and Lady Gaga belted out the tunes wearing the most extravagant costumes they owned. Weird Al Yankovic blew up his fat suit from the archives and The Flaming Lips brought their crowd surfing bubble. Elvis, Iggy and David Lee Roth pulled themselves together for a night and they all formed together to sing me Happy Birthday. The entire night was a blast until Hello Kitty floated in from the parade and bulldozed all the performers offstage. Despite a rough encore, it was one amazing concert.

Eliza Starbuck, Day 8

Day at the Park

In the shade of the Brooklyn Botanical Garden's Cherry Grove

Today I met up with the the BYT street team at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens to catch a little greenary and sunshine.

In front of the Sycamore Trees, also known as London Plane Trees, in McGolrick Park

One again, it was a hot, sticky day in New York, and I had to come up with a way to wear my dress that would allow for maximum air flow. I pulled a favorite jersey dress of mine, by H Fredriksson, and thought I would maximize the benefits of it’s backlessness by turning my little black dress into a skirt.

In order to make the dress into a skirt, I buttoned it up to my waist, belted it (with a thrift store belt) and folded the top down over the belt. I then tucked the back neck line into the center back of my belt so that it would hide the tag and drape nicely.

Indian hand painted silk scarf on my head was a gift from my friend Lisa Marie. And I’m once again wearing Arogonite, the stone of responsibility around my neck. Here I’m enjoying the way the grass feels between my toes, but I wore my Dr. Scholls sandals, shown in the photos above, the rest of the day.
