Yuka Yoneda, Style Challenger!

When we met Yuka at Cobblestones for her dress up session for the style challenge, we had no idea what we were in for.

This girl takes play to the next level. She had us cracking up the entire time. “This is my Gothic girl look… I feel like I need a butcher’s knife!” She would exclaim in the middle of her dress up session.

Being attacked by her new friend, the stuffed glove... Blouse and glove from Cobblestones, NYC. Lace lab glasses made by Yuka.

She had all of us running around the shop looking for the most comically threatening items we could find. This stuffed glove, she decided, would suffice.

“Are there any vintage whips here?” was the next question, which set us back, flitting about the shop in fiendish glee searching for something to give spankings with. The shoe horn that looked like a riding crop was the closest thing that fit the bill. In her spare time, she comes up with outrageous items to execute DIY style, like the protective lab glasses you see here, which she decided to administer a layer of delicate lace to.

Yuka's second look: Gloves, belt, lace slip, umbrella, and rose with lace veil from Cobblestones, NYC. Vivian Westood eco-jelly shoes from Yuka's closet.

When she’s not goofing off with us, “Yuka is a senior editor and writer for Ecouterre.com, and  is also a designer from Queens, New York. She received her bachelor’s in business management from Stony Brook University, and holds a degree in exhibition design from the Fashion Institute of Technology. In 2008, Yuka looked in the mirror and didn’t like what she saw. Always feeling like there was something missing from her life, she had turned to excess, amassing a mountain of clothes, shoes, bags, and random tchotchkes to fill the void.

“In an act of desperation, she founded Swyyne.com as a guide for urbanites wanting to change their piggish ways and has been learning and smiling more ever since. When she isn’t writing about sustainable design, Yuka amuses herself by making trash into treasure, hunting for goodies at her favorite thrift shop, The Family Jewels, and trying to eat every type of food in the world.” -(from her Bio on Ecouterre.com)
