AUTHOR/PHOTOGRAPHER Eliza Starbuck
Materials You will need:
- 5-8 54″ long laces (suede, leather, or woven)
- large feathers
- clear nylon thread
- large beads
- needle that can go through your beads
Step 1A: take you laces and tie them together in a knot at one end, (we recommend you start with 5 if you are a novice braider-weaver, but the more laces you weave, the more secure your feathers will be in your band).
Step 1B: weave the laces into a strap.
Step 1C: Note at the beginning, the color order your laces are in will determine the pattern of your strap.
Step 1D: Almost done weaving…
Step 2: Tie off the end of your strap with a square knot.
Step 2A: wrap the end, covering the knot, with 2 lacing ends, wrapping in opposite directions.
Step 2B: Tie off the end of the wrap, with a square knot.
Step 3: Now your band is complete.
Step 4: Lay out your feathers.
Step 5: Weave the feathers into the back of your band.
Step 6: Feathers in!
Step 7: Lay out your beads.
Step 8: You will need a needle small enough to go through your beads, and some clear nylon thread.
Step 9: Going from the back side with a knot at the end, stitch through your headband to secure the beads.
Step 10: Sew your beads onto the band.
Step 11: Headdress complete. Enjoy your new wings!
