BRIGHT YOUNG THING Kristin Arzt

Hello Kristin!

This is Kristin Arzt and she’s taking on her own Bright Young Things Wear-a-thon Challenge. We wanted to know a little bit more about her before she set out on her Summer-long adventure.

WHERE ARE YOU FROM? I grew up on a farm in Frederick, Maryland. We have cows, chickens, my pet hedge-hog Ziggy-the lady-Stardust, an herb garden with tomatoes and basil, two Newfoundland dogs named Hobbes and Wallace, two Chihuahuas named Lola and Salvador, and my cat Meatface. I’ve lived there pretty much my entire life.

WHY ARE YOU TAKING ON A WEAR-A-THON? To give myself a creative challenge and to celebrate and share the odd assortment of knick-knacks and accessories that I’ve collected through the years.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE? Haute-Barnyard Couture. Think “Green Acres”. I love fashion, but really the country life appeals to me most. I’m more about accessories than clothing. I’ll wear overalls and I’ll pair them with some crazy vintage heels and handbags so my look works both on the farm and in New York City.

WHAT’S YOUR NORMAL SUMMER STYLE ROUTINE? I’m usually on the farm wearing overalls and cutoffs.

WHERE HAVE YOU GOTTEN YOUR WARDROBE’S PRIZE ACCESSORIES? The West Virginia Flea Markets. The country folks there throw away the most amazing things, and for nothing. I don’t think think they even know what they have most of the time. I find crazy historical family hand-me-downs that they just want to get rid of.

HOW DO YOU PLAN ON SPENDING THIS SUMMER? I’m doing something different this summer, I’m staying with my sister in New York City, but I’ll be going back and forth between here and the farm on the weekends. I can’t stay away too long.

WHAT PART OF THE WEAR-A-THON IS THE MOST EXCITING TO YOU? Being able to share everything I have. On the farm, my collection doesn’t get all that appreciated by the animals, well, except for maybe the Chihuahuas. Because of that I brought them to New York with me.

HOW LONG IS YOUR WEAR-A-THON GOING TO BE? I’m going to try for a Summer-long challenge and see where that takes me.
